Camelot Considering Legal Action vs Health Lottery

Camelot operates the National Lottery in the UK and they have an exclusive contract to run the National Lottery until 2019. In recent news it has become apparent that Camelot could be potentially looking to go after The Health Lottery in court. There has been no official response from Camelot on the matter, but news has leaked that the company is looking at legal actions. The Health Lottery was just launched this month and it’s a new lottery that wants to earn money for various health charities.
Camelot is licensed to operate the National Lottery in the UK and they want to ensure that The Health Lottery isn’t breaching any of the strict regulations set in place by the UK Lotteries Commission. The Health Lottery has already fallen into a bit of hot water this month due to their terminals being tampered with. The retail terminals have been tampered with and it has caused many potential clients to shy away from participating in the new lottery geared towards health charities.
Some people have also been questioning how much money has actually been getting donated to the health charities that the new The Health Lottery supports. Some critics have stated that the lottery donates less money than the National Lottery and they feel that they should be donating at least the same amount of Camelot. The Health Lottery claims to be set-up to benefit health charities, but they’re currently donating less than Camelot, which makes it seem like a profitable venture rather than a charitable venture.
Whether there will be legal action or not from Camelot has yet to be seen, but one thing that’s for sure is these two will remain competitors in the UK lottery market for as long as The Health Lottery is in business. The Health Lottery is much smaller than the National Lottery in the UK, so I’m sure Camelot isn’t worried about the increased competition. However, they will make sure that The Health Lottery is abiding by all of the rules and regulations set in place by the UK Lotteries Commission.
